Child Care Aware® of America is pleased to support the reintroduction of the Child Care for Working Families Act and thanks Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA) for their leadership on behalf of our country’s children, families, child care providers, and communities.
The high price of child care is often one of the largest household expenses for families. According to CCAoA’s analysis:
- In 45 states plus the District of Columbia, the average annual price of child care for two children in a center exceeded annual mortgage payments.
- In 49 states plus the District of Columbia, the price of center-based care for two children exceeded median annual rent payments.
- In 41 states plus the District of Columbia, the average annual price of child care for an infant in a center exceeded annual, in-state university tuition.
Further, 81% of parents say that expanding access to affordable, quality child care should be a top or high priority for both federal and state policymakers and 74% of parents think funding for child care and early learning should be increased. CCWFA would help ensure more families have access to high-quality, affordable child care, and would expand federal financial investment in child care which currently does not meet existing need.
