At Child Care Aware® of America (CCAoA), we have a vision for the future of child care: Every family in the United States has access to a high-quality, affordable child care system. To make good on that promise we are committed to advancing a child care system that is equitable and anti-racist.
That is why CCAoA has signed on, along with other leaders in the child care and early learning space, to a statement that acknowledges that child care in America remains deeply connected to systems of white supremacy, structural racism, sexism, and discrimination, and must change.
Addressing these systemic issues is a vital part of our work to advance programs, practices, and policies that are child-centered, family-engaged, equity-driven and community-focused. We recognize that accomplishing this mission also requires a commitment to creating a society that both allows and empowers Black children to thrive. Our work as advocates will continue to face head-on the uncomfortable truths of systemic racism, white supremacy, injustice, and discrimination that undergird our current child care system, and we will fight to create the change necessary to dismantle and transform these structures into a more just and equitable space.
