Health Resource Spotlight: Nutrition Education

Spotlight

Nutrition Education: Resources on the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center (ECLKC) website.

The Problem

If families or child care staff lack knowledge about good nutrition, it can affect the overall health of the children they care for.

Some Solutions

The Early Childhood Health and Wellness portal on ECLKC has an entire web page devoted to nutrition resources, including a section on nutrition education. Some of the resources are directed at consumers and/or families, and others at early childhood educators.

Grow It, Try It, Like It! is a garden-themed kit for child care staff. The kit includes seven booklets featuring fruits and vegetables and describes various adventures through an imaginary garden at Tasty Acres Farm. Through stories and activities, children learn about six healthy foods—everything from how the food looks, smells, and tastes, to how to grow it, to recipes for cooking or baking with it. The kit can be downloaded from the ECLKC website; hard copies can also be ordered.

Some of the other resources under the nutrition education section include a tip sheet for parents and caregivers on how to Encourage Healthy Eating Habits and a “Little Voices for Healthy Choices” webinar on nutrition for infants and toddlers.
