The Problem:
States and territories must implement Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) requirements on criminal background checks, but those requirements are complicated and can be difficult to understand.
One Solution:
The National Center on Subsidy Innovation and Accountability (NCSIA) has launched a new webpage devoted to Criminal Background Check Resources. The page contains comprehensive resources that break down the CCDF requirements into easy-to-understand language.
The resources include:
- Background Check Requirements Highlights, which contains key requirements from CCDF. The resource includes information on the applicability of the rules, the individuals subject to background checks, and required national and state-based checks.
- Criminal Background Check (CBC) Requirements PowerPoint, which is designed to help states, territories, and tribes that are working toward full implementation of the criminal background check requirements. The PowerPoint clarifies policy, breaks down regulations, and provides examples of implementing the CBC requirements.
- Child Care Subsidy Criminal Background Check Contact List, which lists the contact information for was created to ease the burden of finding criminal background check contact information for other states.
In addition, the webpage has links to recordings of three webinars on background checks that were co-hosted by the Office of Child Care (OCC) and NCSIA in October and November 2017.
