Healthy Habits for Happy Smiles: Getting Fluoride for Your Child
Some families avoid serving their children tap water because they question whether fluoridated water is safe to drink.
Consumer education about oral health has been posted on The Early Childhood Health and Wellness portal of the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center (ECLKC) website.
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and this year’s focus is on promoting the practice of drinking tap water with fluoride. Getting Fluoride for Your Child is a resource you can share with parents about the role fluoride plays in reducing tooth decay. It describes several easy ways that parents can help their children get an adequate amount of this important substance: by giving them tap water, having them brush with fluoride toothpaste, and allowing the dentist to periodically apply a fluoride varnish. This handout is available in English and Spanish.
